Cattle Mixed at Midday

Live cattle futures are showing mixed action in Tuesday with nearby Dec up 25 cents and other contracts down 7 to 12 cents. Cash action was at $191-192 trade in the South last week, with trade up to $195-196 in the North. No trade was reported on Monday, with most compiling showlists.

Feeder cattle futures are up $1.15 to $1.45 at midday. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was back down 86 cents from the day prior at $261.73 on December 13. The weekly OKC feeder cattle auction showed 7,342 head for Monday’s sale. Sales were $5-10 higher for feeder steers, with calves $8-13 higher. Feeder heifers and heifer calves were steady.

USDA wholesale Boxed Beef prices were mixed in the Tuesday morning report. Choice boxes were up 43 cents to $317.80/cwt, with Select 53 cents lower @ $289.04. USDA estimated Monday’s federally inspected cattle slaughter at 118,000 head. That is 1,000 head below the previous Monday and down 5,745 from the same Monday last year.

Apr 25 Live Cattle  are at $191.675, down $0.075,

Jan 25 Feeder Cattle  are at $257.000, up $1.450

Mar 25 Feeder Cattle  are at $257.575, up $1.200

Apr 25 Feeder Cattle  are at $258.575, up $1.150
